I decided to do an experiment making an os ten mavericks bootable dvd and i successfully made information technology and boots from it using the following method
1. i made a modest 8gb partition on my external 1tb hdd and used the following command to brand a bootable mavericks partition:

Run this in terminal and expect almost 20 minutes:
sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ Os\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
You lot should encounter something like this:
Erasing Disk: 0%... 10%... 20%... 100%...
Copying installer files to disk...
Copy complete.
Making deejay bootable...
Copying boot files...
Copy consummate.
Done.
2. i made a new image in disk utility from the install bone 10 mavericks partitioning
three. i burned it to an eight.5 gb dvd and booted from information technology
the problem was that when i booted from the dvd it took 1hr and 7 minutes to boot and it was so laggy
then i tried booting from the hdd partition and information technology took 53 seconds and didn't have any lag
is it normal to take that long to boot from dvd or did i exercise something wrong or is there something wrong with my MBP
i was using an early 2011 13 inch macbook pro with 8gb ram and 1tb hdd

Last time I tried to make a bootable dvd installer from the createinstallmedia control, I too could boot from information technology, just it wouldn't let me install mavericks.
And then that DVD went in the bin and I proceeded to brand 1 that actually works properly using the following method.
After downloading the Install OS X Mavericks.app file from the Mac App Store, run these 12 commands in Final to create a Mavericks.iso file and then burn information technology to a dual layer DVD with Disk Utility. I think making a Panthera leo installer DVD in 2011. The DVD only continued to spin and would not kicking within 30 minutes, then I simply cancelled the whole thing and made an USB installer. Much quicker for peace of mind!
I guess something changed inside the installer parameters that makes DVD loading that much more slower. Mayhap the Recovery Partition? In Snow Leopard and before, there was no Recovery Partition - everything was integrated, so perhaps that sped upward the DVD boot process?
I don't take a problem with the DVD taking longer than a USB to boot up.
If you used createinstallmedia to make the DVD, it is more of a problem that it won't really allow you install mavericks after information technology has booted. There isn't much indicate in having a bootable DVD installer if it boots but doesn't actually let you lot install mavericks.
If you lot use my method nevertheless, it will boot up and install mavericks - just not a recovery division. Yous tin use the script file I linked to earlier to brand that. Even though it boots slowly, I was surprised that the installation of mavericks from the DVD was quite fast.
If y'all want information technology to kicking up faster though, I hold that a USB would be a better choice. And information technology volition automatically install a recovery sectionalization if you lot made it with createinstallmedia - then no demand for a script file in this instance.
